Interra Resources Limited, based in Singapore, has delivered more than 2 million barrels of oil, worth over $150 million, to the Myanmar military, bolstering the regime's terrorist activities, according to Justice for Myanmar (JFM) on January 29.

Following the Myanmar military's illegal coup in February 2021, Interra Resources has supplied the junta with over 2 million barrels of oil worth over $150 million, bolstering its campaign of violence, as stated in a press release from JFM.

Interra Resources holds a 60% stake in Goldpetrol Joint Operating Company Inc., which provided 2.3 million barrels of oil to Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) from January 2021 through the end of 2023. The oil was extracted from Goldpetrol’s onshore fields in Chauk and Yenangyaung, situated in the Magway region, where the junta is perpetrating war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In this timeframe, Interra Resources disclosed revenues exceeding $55 million from its operations in Myanmar, based on the company's stock market announcements and confidential financial documents examined by Justice For Myanmar and the UK journalism group Finance Uncovered.

The oil underwent refining at the Mann Thanbayarkan petrochemical facility, managed by Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise (MPE), which is overseen by the junta’s energy ministry.

This refinery generates diesel and jet fuel utilized by the military to energize its aircraft, trucks, and tanks that participate in the junta’s assaults on civilians.

Confronted with global sanctions impacting its aviation fuel supply chain, the junta has been struggling to secure fuel to sustain its conflict against the people of Myanmar.

Up until August 2023, Interra Resources was led by Indonesian billionaire Edwin Soeryadjaya, who held over 10% of the company's shares together with Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, the former Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy during President Joko Widodo's administration.

Uno served as the deputy chairperson of Interra Resources until 2016 and held a small stake until just recently.

Interra Resources' partner in the joint venture Goldpetrol is North Petroleum International Co. Ltd., which is a division of China ZhenHua Oil Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned conglomerate NORINCO, a significant arms supplier for the Myanmar military.

Justice for Myanmar urges Interra Resources to stop supplying oil to the Myanmar military junta without delay.

JFM is calling on the Singapore Stock Exchange to implement regulatory measures against Interra Resources for its ongoing dealings with a sanctioned entity and its involvement in facilitating the junta’s international crimes.

JFM urges governments to enact coordinated sanctions against MOGE, MPE, and banks under junta control that aid Interra Resources' dealings with MOGE.

As a member of ASEAN, Singapore has a specific obligation to stop companies and individuals within its borders from significantly aiding the military junta and extending the crisis in Myanmar.

The nation needs to take action to terminate Interra Resources' participation in the junta’s war crimes.

Yadanar Maung, a spokesperson for Justice for Myanmar, stated: "Interra Resources is involved in the Myanmar military's international crimes by continuing to provide oil to the terrorist junta. The company's dealings with MOGE directly aid the junta's expanding reign of terror, which has resulted in the deaths of children, the destruction of schools and hospitals, and the displacement of more than 3 million individuals. Interra Resources' operations have been facilitated by the absence of global measures to restrict the junta’s access to finances, weaponry, and fuel. Authorities, such as Singapore, need to take action, enforce specific sanctions against the junta, and terminate the participation of their businesses and citizens in the junta's illicit activities."
