The Karen National Union (KNU) claims that 3,136 junta soldiers, including officers, were killed and 2,225 others injured in clashes across KNU-controlled areas in 2024.
The KNU’s central executive committee stated on 24 January that hundreds of junta soldiers, ranging from tactical operation commanders to privates, were also captured during the gun fighting.
At least 3,229 major and minor clashes took place last year between the junta soldiers (which invaded the KNU and Kawthoolei administrative areas) and resistance forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Karenni Nationalities Defence Forces (KNDO).
According to the KNU, the clashes resulted in a significant loss for the resistance forces. Around 100 fighters belonging to the KNLA & KNDO-led joint forces sacrificed their lives for the freedom aspiring people. Nearly 325 fighters sustained injuries, added the KNU’s central executive committee.
