The military junta’s air forces carried out two airstrikes on Taung Maw Oo village under Pauktaw township, which is now under the control of Arakan Army (AA), at around 10:30 am on 12 January. The strikes destroyed several shops and houses in the area.

According to a local source, the damaged properties belonged to a local villager named Aung San.

A junta fighter jet flew over the village twice on Monday,  first at 10:50 and later at 10:55 am, releasing two bombs on it. As the villagers had already fled the area, there was no casualty, added the source.

The junta soldiers, facing military setbacks in Arakan State, became frustrated and started conducting airstrikes on residential areas in recent days.

On 8 January, the junta’s airstrikes targeted Kyauk Ni Maw village under Ramree township which killed 40 people, 26 bodies of whom were recovered in a pile of debris.

The AA spokesperson U Khaing Thukha condemned the airstrikes on civilian areas, calling those as a war crime committed by the military junta.

On the morning of 11 January, the junta forces conducted airstrikes on Kyauktaw town, killing 9 civilians and injuring 30 others. Next day, they launched another airstrike on Taung Maw Oo village under Pauktaw township.
