On 4 January, Independence Day, an attack on the Taungoo air forces base headquarters resulted in the death of seven personnel, including three military officers, and injuries to ten others, including two officers, said BWM Mission 28.
BWM Mission 28 reported that the base was targeted with 12 improvised rockets, 10 of which struck the hangar.
The attack caused significant damages, including destruction of the front of two K8 aircraft with shattered windshields and broken wheel shock absorbers.
Additionally, the runway in front of the hangar was damaged and the air forces administration office was destroyed by an explosion. Moreover officer avenue housing caught fire and the kitchen behind the officer's residence was also affected.
As a result of the attack, the junta forces suffered heavy casualties. Three officers, including a staff officer, and four other enlisted soldiers were killed, while two officers and eight other enlisted soldiers sustained serious injuries.
While a number of K8, MiG 29, and Mi35 aircrafts had taken off and those landed the previous night, the activity at the base slowed down after the rocket attacks early this morning. Only one Mi35 aircraft was seen taking off and landing after the strike.
The statement also added that all BWM and allied forces had reached a safe location and will continue their efforts to advance the revolutionary march targeting the junta’s air forces and major military bases.
