Female official from a local NGO killed in junta airstrikes in Ponnagyun Township

On December 31, an assistant field officer from the Wan Lark Development Foundation, which engages in social work in Arakan State, was killed in airstrikes conducted by the Myanmar junta on residential areas in Yoe Ta Yoke village, located in Ponnagyun Township. 

The victim has been identified as Ma Oo San Nwe, 25,  from Tan Khoe village in Ponnagyun Township. 

As per a release from the Wan Lark Development Foundation, Ma Oo San Nwe, an Assistant Field Officer (AFO), was instantly killed in a military airstrike at 1:25 pm on December 31. 

Overall, five civilians, among them Ma Oo San Nwe, died in the airstrikes targeting Yoe Ta Yoke village that day. 

The remaining victims included Daw Ma Thar Hla, 76, from Yoe Ta Yoke village; Ko Myo Zaw Tun, 18, from Kun Taung village, who had taken refuge in Yoe Ta Yoke village; Maung Myo Hein Aung, 9, from Yoe Ta Yoke village, who was sheltered in San Pya ward of Ponnagyun Town; and U Hla Phyu, 46, likewise from Yoe Ta Yoke village. 

On December 31, the terrorist junta executed two airstrikes on Yoe Ta Yoke village with a fighter jet. The initial strike took place at 1:25 pm, with the second happening at 1:31 pm. 

The airstrikes focused on Yoe Ta Yoke village, which had not seen any combat. The assaults demolished a school, a monastery, and a residence, resulting in the death of five individuals, including a 9-year-old boy, while injuring approximately 10 more.
