Myanmar junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing once again urged for the abandonment of armed conflict in a message for the 77th Myanmar Independence Day festivities.

In the communication, the junta leader remarked, "The factions involved in armed conflict against the State are encouraged to forsake the route of violence and address political issues through political means."

It also stressed, "It has been explicitly stated that no solutions will be offered to the demands of armed terrorism."

The junta leader additionally emphasized that measures to maintain the unity of the union should be supported as per the law.

"I call on all to settle armed disputes and political disagreements in line with the law to maintain the unity of the Union, uphold national solidarity, and safeguard sovereignty," the message stated.

He urged citizens to defend the nation due to ongoing armed conflicts in both the highlands and plains.

"Since it is the inherent duty of every citizen to protect the nation’s independence and sovereignty, I earnestly call on all citizens to come together and, with the spirit of unity, jointly safeguard and defend the nation," the message added.

The junta leader characterized the forthcoming election as just and respectable, while sidelining prominent parties like the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the Arakan National Party (ANP).

"I strongly commit to making sure that the general election will be organized, equitable, and respectful, and to hand over state responsibilities to the government created as a consequence of the election," he remarked.

The junta has not adequately evaluated the persistent armed conflict in Myanmar, enduring for over 70 years, attributing the strife to divisions established during British colonial administration.

"Even though Myanmar has become a sovereign and independent country, the effects of colonial provocations still reverberate today," the statement read.

Political experts have determined that the current civil war in Myanmar arises from a military regime led by a single ethnic group that has controlled and governed the whole nation. (Photo: Frontier Myanmar)
