An elderly woman was killed in airstrikes conducted by the junta forces early this morning on Kan Htaung Gyi town under Myebon township of Arakan State.
The deceased has been identified as Daw Ma Thein (71), who hailed from Ywar Thit ward of Kan Htaung Gyi town.
A local resident informed Narinjara News that a fighter jet dropped three bombs on the town at around 1 am on Friday, killing the woman.
"She was staying at a house near the hospital. As the junta soldiers carried out deliberate airstrikes, she sustained injuries by shrapnel and later died in the morning hours," he added.
Another resident reported that a high school and a hospital building were destroyed by the airstrikes.
"First, a bomb was dropped on the high school and later two bombs hit the hospital. Everything was destroyed, but fortunately no casualty was reported,” he added.
Earlier on 31 December, the junta’s air force bombed Yoe Ta Yoke village under Ponnagyun township, killing five people including a child.
Human rights activists claim that the junta’s deliberate attacks on schools, monasteries and hospitals in the localities, where fighting has ceased, are sold examples of war crimes.
