Six Key Aspects Covered in the AA Statement

The announcement released by the Arakan Army (AA) on December 29, 2024, highlighted six main aspects: stance, economy, military, nationalism, peace, and politics. 

1. Stance 

"Liberation from tyranny and national equality." 

The United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) is an entity committed to attaining national equality for every ethnic group in the Arakan area and striving for the region's freedom from tyrannical authorities. 

The ULA/AA is a political group spearheading the armed struggle for the Arakan population. 

2. Economy 

"Embracing international investment" 

Upon seizing 90 percent of Arakan State, which encompasses 15 townships, the AA has embraced foreign investment in land and water resources. 

The AA recognizes foreign investments that will aid in the benefit, growth, and progress of Arakan State. 

The AA also declared that it will guarantee the protection and safety of individuals engaged in investment activities, projects, and enterprises. 

Moreover, to guarantee the ongoing functioning of foreign investments and projects, the organization will work with the relevant companies and pursue mutually beneficial partnerships. 

3. Military

"AA's offensive contributes to the liberation of the entire population of Myanmar." 

As of December 29, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) has taken control of 15 townships, among them Paletwa Township. Moreover, the AA is collaborating with its allies in Chin State, Kachin State, Northern Shan State, and Karen State. 

The AA holds that its military efforts are a direct factor in freeing the entire populace of Myanmar from the military regime. 

The statement further mentions, “The Arakan Army's attacks, initiated on November 13, 2023, have mainly focused on realizing the hopes of the Arakan people and securing the freedom of all ethnic communities in the area. We strongly contend that our efforts directly contribute to the liberation of the entire populace of Myanmar from military rule.” 

4. Nationalism

"We will remain steadfast in our support for the oppressed individuals of Myanmar." 

The declaration highlighted that the Arakan Army (AA) will continue being a genuine brother and friend to the ethnic brothers and sisters within Myanmar. 

The declaration states, “Our organization will stay strong and unwavering in guaranteeing that the political goals of Myanmar's oppressed communities are achieved together. We will remain loyal brothers and friends to our ethnic siblings within Myanmar.” 

5. Peace

"AA is actively involved in the Haigeng Agreement." 

The declaration states, “In recent years, guided by the proactive leadership of the People's Republic of China, our organization, together with the Kokang and Ta'ang groups, has robustly worked together across several areas, such as border stability between China and Myanmar, elimination of violence, and curtailment of online gambling. We worked relentlessly to achieve the 'Haigeng Agreement.' 

6. Politics 

"We pursue political resolutions instead of military ones." 

The statement says, “Similarly, we consistently stay receptive to addressing the ongoing internal problems through political avenues instead of resorting to military options.”
