Spokesperson U Khaing Thu Kha confirmed to Narinjara News that the Arakan Army (AA) has taken control of every military base belonging to the junta in Gwa, the southernmost town in Arakan State, close to Ayeyarwady division, a delta region of Myanmar.
"As of the afternoon on December 29, 2024, the Arakan Army has taken control of every military base of the terrorist junta in Gwa Town. The Arakan Army is currently chasing the withdrawing junta troops, who are escaping in chaos," he stated.
He mentioned that combat is still occurring as junta troops try to re-enter the region near Gwa Town.
"Fighting persists in certain regions as the terrorist junta forces attempt to re-enter the vicinity of Gwa Town with additional troops. The air force of the junta is still conducting airstrikes, while the navy persists in shelling from the waters close to Kan Thar Yar beach in Ayeyarwady Region," he stated.
The Arakan Army (AA) seized the 562nd and 563rd light infantry battalions located in Gwa Town, encountering strong opposition from junta troops employing tanks, aircraft, and naval ships.
