The Arakan Army (AA) has taken control of the Western Command as of today at noon, AA spokesperson U Khaing Thu Kha told Narinjara News.
“As of noon today, we have fully taken control of Western Command,” he stated.
In the course of the battle, Brigadier General Thaung Tun, the Deputy Regional Commander of the Western Command, and Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than, the Regional General Staff Officer, were taken alive, despite sustaining injuries.
U Khaing Thu Kha also mentioned that AA forces are chasing after certain retreating junta soldiers.
Following the capture of more than 30 military bases, including multiple battalions, the AA has successfully established control over the Western Command, representing a significant triumph.
The Western Command is the biggest military base in Arakan State, and its takeover is a significant achievement for the AA.
By capturing Ann, the AA now oversees six districts and fourteen townships in the region.
