The junta forces, under the order of brigadier general Thurain Tun (who is currently under arrest) reportedly killed two radiographers from Maungdaw general hospital and three Mro ethnic people at the 5th Border Guard Police battalion (NaKhaKha-5).
A health worker stated that two radiographers namely U Ye Min and U Ye Min Oo were arrested, tortured, and then killed at NaKhaKha-5.
“We urge the Arakan Army (AA) to conduct a thorough investigation and reveal the truth.
Brigadier General Thurein Tun had previously ordered the closure of Maungdaw general hospital. On 25 March, arrest warrants were issued for Maungdaw district hospital superintendent Dr Nu Kay Thi San and physician Dr Aung Naing Lin accusing them of maintaining links with the AA,” he added.
As a result of these actions, both Dr Nu Kay Thi San and Dr Aung Naing Lin fled. Later two radiographers were arrested and killed.
“They closed the hospital and built bunkers with sandbags. They expelled all the health workers and forcibly blocked people from receiving medical treatment. They also arrested two radiographers and killed them at NaKhaKha-5. It’s a violation of human rights,” asserted the health worker.
On 15 May at 5 pm, the radiographers from Maungdaw general hospital namely U Ye Min and U Ye Min Oo were arrested by the junta forces while they visited Maung Ni village. They were later killed at the NaKhaKha-5.
Reports have emerged that over 100 Arakanese, Muslims, and Hindus were arrested for various reasons at NaKhaKha-5 with many reportedly killed while under detention.
The victims included three ethnic Mro individuals namely U Naing Win (39-year-old auto-rickshaw driver) from Kaing Gyi (Mro) village, Ko Man Paing (25) from Laung Don village and Ko Shin Sein (26) from Khon Taing village.
The three men were arrested at the NaKhaKha-5 checkpoint in Maungdaw locality on 3 April while they were carrying Kyats 18 million, which they earned from selling gold items in the town market. Soon they went missing along with their money, claimed their families.
During the capture of NaKhaKha-5 in Maungdaw, the AA fighters rescued a small group of prisoners. This group included four civilians namely Kun Thee (also known as Kyaw Naing Oo), Ko Zaw Naing Oo and U Aung Ko Myat from Ah Lel Than Kyaw area. The identities of the other freed prisoners are yet to be disclosed.
