ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army), a terrorist group, killed two people, including a young woman from Daingnet community, abducted three civilians and burned down three houses in Maungdaw and Buthidaung townships of Arakan State.
On the afternoon of 4 December, the ARSA militants raided Sin Swel Ya Daingnet village under Buthidaung township and opened fire to kill a young woman. The terrorist group then set three houses on fire and also abducted three villagers.
The woman who was killed has been identified as Ma Khin Win (17 years old) who belonged to Daingnet minority community.
The abducted individuals, all from the Daingnet community, are identified as Ko Ye Ko Ko (26), Ko Maung Maung Htay (22) and U Oo Hla Win (39).
In a separate attack, U Kyaw Thar Aung (62) from Aung Zeya village under Maungdaw township was killed by ARSA militants.
According to the local residents, Kyaw Thar Aung was shot dead by the terrorists while herding his cattle near a monastery in Aung Zeya village at around 5 pm on Wednesday.
The residents expressed concern that the militants’ actions were aimed at creating religious & ethnic tension in the region. The terrorist group is deliberately targeting innocent civilians in Buthidaung and Maungdaw Townships to fuel communal tension.
A former member of Parliament, who wants anonymity, stated that the ARSA’s killings of minorities in the region can be seen as a tactic to wipe out the ethnic groups, other than Muslims, from Buthidaung and Maungdaw.
The Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO) reported on 18 November that the ARSA militants killed at least 22 civilians and injured 6 others within 1 January and 18 November 2024.
