Over 20,000 individuals who have been forced to leave their homes in Thandwe Township, Arakan State, require immediate assistance with food, blankets, and warm clothing.
One activist in the township mentioned that despite the efforts of social activists, the high number of people in need has made it challenging to manage providing food for the displaced.
“Displaced individuals, especially those from coastal villages, still encounter significant difficulties despite being relocated. Gathering rice and shipping it by boat is being challenged by the expensive cost of fuel,” the activist explained.
The activist further mentioned that the majority of individuals have been prevented from going back to their hometowns because of continuous bombings by the military air force on residential areas.
“The presence of airstrikes continues to pose a threat, causing most individuals to be too scared to return. They are residing in villages that they deem to be more secure. With the arrival of winter, blankets, warm clothing, and mattresses are urgently needed, especially for children and the elderly," stated the activist.
The junta air force has been conducting regular air attacks on multiple villages in Thandwe Township, leading to casualties. On November 10, a restaurant located close to Andaw Bridge in Thandwe Town was struck, resulting in the deaths of the shop owner, Daw Su Su Hlaing, aged 34, and Ma Wine Sein Ma.
Many people from Thandwe Town have escaped the fighting by moving to Yangon and the Ayeyarwady Region, with the rest finding safety in different parts of the township.
