Just before fighting started in Taungup, three teenagers went missing while gathering food near Pan Myauk mountain, where the military has guns. The mother who went looking for them has also disappeared.
The missing teens are Maung Phoe Khwar, 16, who is LGBT; Maung Kan Kaung, 13; and an 18-year-old from Kha Yay Street in Kan Paing Ward, Taungup Town.
Maung Phoe Khwar's mom, Daw Khin Mya, is also missing after she went to find them.
The three teens vanished on October 27 after gathering food near Pan Myauk mountain and didn't come home. A family friend said Maung Phoe Khwar's mom went to look for them but hadn't returned by November 2.
"Those kids still haven't come home. There's a military base with big guns on Pan Myauk mountain near where they went, and lots of soldiers are moving around. We don't know if they've been caught or not. The mom who went to find them is missing too," a family friend said.
Now, the Arakan Army (AA) has attacked the military base on Pan Myauk mountain on October 31, and the fighting is heavy. This puts the three teens and their mom in great danger, another friend said.
On October 31, intense fighting broke out between the Arakan Army (AA) and military forces around Pan Myauk mountain. The military used fighter jets to attack for almost the whole day.
