Methamphetamine pills valued around Kyats 3.98 billion, purchased by a man from Maungdaw town of  Arakan State, were recently seized in Yangon by a joint team of anti-narcotics police officers under the military junta.

The team conducted a search operation on the vehicle driven by Win Htut, a resident of ward number 29 in north Dagon township, at 4:30 pm on 14 October and detected 300,000 methamphetamine pills, reported the junta-owned newspapers.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle carrying methamphetamine pills were confiscated by 5 pm and  an additional 3.69 million methamphetamine pills were seized from Win Htut's house on Shwe Kyee lane in Kyi Su (west) ward of south Dagon township at 5:30 pm.

The seized methamphetamine pills were sold by Sai Sai Nun (also known as P Nun) from Namsang township in southern Shan State and Han Thein (also known as Sai San Swe) from Kyethi township. The pills were purchased by Soe Myint (also known as Zi Buramauk) from Maungdaw locality,” added the report.

Soe Moe Aung (also known as Mol Zuraman) from Botahtaung township in the Yangon region along with Kyaw Win Soe from Maha Aungmye township in the Mandalay region and his wife Ma Thidar Win (also known as Jasmine)  were also arrested for their involvement in the drug trafficking.

The arrested individuals are prosecuted under the law, while the investigation into other suspects in the network still continues. The actions are being implemented to confiscate the financial benefits and assets acquired from the drug trafficking as public funds under the anti-money laundering law.
