Members
of Arakan
Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) ambushed a civilian car returning from the
market in northern Maungdaw of Arakan State and killed a woman and injured four
others.
The victim is identified as Daw San San Oo (38)
hailing from Aung Mingalar village under Maungdaw township. She was shot at her
head and died instantly.
The injured individuals include Ko Saw Naing
(27), Ma Htay (21) and U Nyi Chey (42),who hail from Aung Mingalar village. The
fourth injured individual (U Tun Win Hlaing, 45) hails from Thar Yar Kone
village.
They all sustained serious wounds in stomachs, heads,
legs, etc.
“They went to Taung Pro to buy goods in the morning and
returned home by truck at around 4 pm. Before reaching Mee Taik village,
they were ambushed by the ARSA rebels and the lady died on the spot,” said a
resident.
Violent attacks on the civilians by armed groups
remain a frequent incident in Maungdaw and Buthidaung townships. The
military-trained Muslim armed groups, along with ARSA, Rohingya Solidarity
Organization (RSO), Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA), etc are usually responsible for
these brutal incidents.
The local residents urged the Arakan People's
Government and Arakan Army (AA) to
address the violent incidents and also carry out clearance operations in those
areas.
It’s speculated that the AA will soon capture the junta's remaining base
(5th Border Guard Police Battalion-NaKhaKha-5) in Maungdaw.
