Membersof ArakanRohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) ambushed a civilian car returning from themarket in northern Maungdaw of Arakan State and killed a woman and injured fourothers.
The victim is identified as Daw San San Oo (38)hailing from Aung Mingalar village under Maungdaw township. She was shot at herhead and died instantly.
The injured individuals include Ko Saw Naing(27), Ma Htay (21) and U Nyi Chey (42),who hail from Aung Mingalar village. Thefourth injured individual (U Tun Win Hlaing, 45) hails from Thar Yar Konevillage.
They all sustained serious wounds in stomachs, heads,legs, etc.
“They went to Taung Pro to buy goods in the morning andreturned home by truck at around 4 pm. Before reaching Mee Taik village,they were ambushed by the ARSA rebels and the lady died on the spot,” said aresident.
Violent attacks on the civilians by armed groupsremain a frequent incident in Maungdaw and Buthidaung townships. Themilitary-trained Muslim armed groups, along with ARSA, Rohingya SolidarityOrganization (RSO), Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA), etc are usually responsible forthese brutal incidents.
The local residents urged the Arakan People'sGovernment and Arakan Army (AA) toaddress the violent incidents and also carry out clearance operations in thoseareas.
It’s speculated that the AA will soon capture the junta's remaining base(5th Border Guard Police Battalion-NaKhaKha-5) in Maungdaw.
