Residents left Kan Htaung Gyi after four airstrikes hit in 7 months

Kan Htaung Gyi town, located in Myebon townshipand home to over 3,000 families, experienced four airstrikes in the last sevenmonths (March to September), which led two-thirds of its residents to leave forsafer places.

 

On 25 September, the Sabbath Day, at around 4 pm a fighter jet conducted airstrikes on Kan Htaung Gyi town where twopeople including an 11-year-old girl died.

 

Seven others, including another 11-year-old girl andan elderly person, sustained serious injuries.

 

"The families are still leaving the town.We can't assure them that there would be no more airstrikes. They are fleeingto escape the conflicts,” said a resident of Kan Htaung Gyi.



 

The residents primarily seek refuge in nearbyvillages. Now only one-third of the urban population continues to remain intheir original places.

 

The junta forces intentionally carried outairstrikes on Kan Htaung Gyi at around 5:30 pm on  2 April using twofighter jets. This attack resulted in the death of four residents in Myit NarTan ward and it also injured many others.

 

On 31 March at around 8 pm, the junta soldiersconducted an airstrike on Kan Htaung Gyi with a fighter jet, which caused fire at basic education post-primary school and it destroyed four housesin the ward.

Similarly, at 4am on 24 March, the junta targeted a cottage hospital in Kan Htaung Gyi with afighter jet, resulting in serious head injuries to Daw Wah Wah, a femaleemployee from Karen State.

 

On 25September, the junta's airstrikes resulted in the death of two people,including an 11-year-old girl, and completely destroyed a monastery and severalother houses.
