An Arakanese fisherman working in Thailand won a grandprize of Baht 6 million in the Thai government's lottery draw on 16 September.
The winner is a 42-year-old man fromKyaukphyu township of Arakan State and it was confirmed by Ko Ye Min,head of Myanmar Humanitarian Action Center (MHAC)-which assists Myanmar migrantworkers in Thailand.
“The Thai lottery usually draws at 4 pmin local time. Before 3 pm, a vendor came to sell lottery tickets to him. Hebought three tickets and gave one to a friend with an agreement to splitthe prize if they won. He kept the other two tickets with him and won as well,”said Ko Ye Min.
His lottery ticket number was 608662. Ko Ye Min addedthat the winner had already collected the prize money with the help of the MHACon 17 September.
The winner plans to use the amount to start a business andalso support the Arakan revolution.
"He said he will run a business and continue tosupport the Arakan revolution. He is currently involved with theseinitiatives," added Ko Ye Min.
The winning Arakanese national has been workingin the Thai fishing industry for over 20 years and currently he owns a fishingboat.
