Prominent monk Mrauk-U Sayadaw Ashin Warya Mainda fromArakan State donated Kyat 100 million for the affected families in the recentMyanmar flood.
According to a statement on Sayadaw's facebook pageposted on 13 September, the donation was organized and led by his disciplesnamely U Zawana from Mandalay, U Uttara Wuntha from Yangon with a few others.
Sayadaw and his disciples began organizing thedonation effort from Mandalay and started distributing aid to floodvictims in Taungoo, Yedashe and Htantabin townships.
Currently, Mrauk-U Sayadaw is residing temporarily inthe United States. The donors from different parts of the world, including theUnited States, are contributing to the flood relief initiative.
Typhoon Yagi in the South China Sea caused heavyrainfalls in Myanmar from 11 September, leading to floods and landslides indifferent regions. Affected areas include Magway region, Mandalay region,Naypyidaw, Bago region, Mon State, Kayah State, Karen State, Shan State andAyeyarwady region, resulting in the death of hundred people.
The military regime stated recently that the disasterrecorded 226 deaths with injuries to 14 and 77 individuals went missing. Italso noted that 7,290 houses and 78,000 families were affected. Over 320,000people were evacuated nationwide. The rescue workers suggested that the actualcasualties and damage may be higher.
More than 300,000 people across the country arestruggling to recover from the natural disaster and they need food andmedicines urgently.
