A woman in Thandwe township of Arakan State was critically injured while searching for forest produce when  she triggered a war remnant bomb. Both of her arms and legs  were severed leading to her life in danger.

The injured woman is identified as Daw Mi Htaw Htaw, a 56-year-old from Daw Mya village under Thandwe township.

She accidentally triggered the bomb while foraging in the forest near her village on 12 September  morning.

“There are still unexploded war remnants in those forest areas. She found one of these bombs (from Thandwe fighting) and accidentally triggered it, leading to the accident,” said a local resident.

Her legs were severed below the knee and arms below the elbow. Now she is struggling for life.

“She sustained serious injuries and now she is receiving emergency medical treatment,” added the resident.

The Arakan Army (AA) advised the people to be cautious, as landmines and remnants of war may still be present in the vicinity of military bases in the towns fully controlled by the AA in Arakan State, including the tactical operations command and military operations command, as well as surrounding areas of the military bases, roads, schools, grazing lands and nearby forests and mountains.
