The junta's airstrikes  destroyed some parts of the United Nations office buildingsin 3-mile and Wai Thar Li village under  Maungdaw town of Arakan State, which was providing humanitarian aid to the needy families.

According to an Arakan Army (AA) statement issued on 10 September, the juntasoldiers conducted the airstrikes on the UN buildings at around 8:30 pm onMonday.

"The UN offices were destroyed. The UNHCR office and otheroffices were also damaged," confirmed AA spokesperson U Khaing Thukha.

The airstrikes also destroyed the staff rooms, residential dormitories and somenearby houses

The international humanitarian aid teams and other employees, including the UNoffice staff, have already closed their offices since the fighting in Maungdawintensified.

The AA fighters managed to rescue international humanitarian aid teams andstaff,  who were trapped in Maungdaw urban areas.

There was no casualty during the airstrikes, added U Khaing Thukha.

The UN office in Maungdaw district was opened for UN activities. It alsoinitiated cooperation with UN-affiliated organizations and internationalhumanitarian aid organizations.

To protect the UN office building from the junta’s airstrikes, the word UN wasclearly painted in white on a blue background over the roof since the firstweek of February.

Despite its visibility, U Khaing Thukha asserted that the junta’s airstrikesindicated that they do not accept humanitarian assistance from any UNorganization.

"Airstrikes by the military junta on UN office-buildings show that they nolonger recognize the UN. Since these organizations provided humanitarian aid,it appears that the junta authorities seemingly reject all forms ofhumanitarian support,” said a local resident.

Following these attacks, the junta soldiers targeted the AA's temporary prisonat the 2nd border guard police battalion (NaKhaKha-2) in Maungdaw, which wasearlier captured by the AA fighters at around 9:30 pm on 9 September.

The airstrikes resulted in the death of more than 50 people, includingprisoners of war, on the spot. Over 70 individuals also sustained injuries.
