Another group of 100 Byine Phyu residents imprisoned for 3 years

The military junta  sentenced nearly 100 additional residents of Byine Phyu village under  Sittwe township of Arakan State to three years of imprisonment under section 17(1) of the unlawful association act.


They were sentenced as appeared at the township court in Sittwe by  2 pm on 6 September.


"They appeared in court and received their sentences. Almost 100 individuals were given three years in prison. They were each sentenced for maintaining  links with  the Arakan Army," said a source close to them.

 

On 30 August, 148 residents of Byine Phyu village were also sentenced to three years in prison each under section 17(1) of the same act, raising the total number of Byine Phyu residents imprisoned up to over 200.

 

On 29 May, the junta forces raided Byine Phyu village killing 76 people and arresting 300 others.


Some of the arrested residents were released after they paid bribes to junta soldiers. The rest were charged under the unlawful association laws and imprisoned.
