The military junta sentenced nearly 100additional residents of Byine Phyu village under Sittwe township ofArakan State to three years of imprisonment under section 17(1) of the unlawfulassociation act.
They were sentenced as appeared at the township court in Sittwe by 2 pmon 6 September.
"They appeared in court and received their sentences. Almost 100individuals were given three years in prison. They were each sentenced formaintaining links with the Arakan Army," said a source closeto them.
On 30 August, 148 residents of Byine Phyu village werealso sentenced to three years in prison each under section 17(1) of the sameact, raising the total number of Byine Phyu residents imprisoned up to over200.
On 29 May, the junta forces raided Byine Phyu villagekilling 76 people and arresting 300 others.
Some of the arrested residents were released after they paid bribes to junta soldiers. The rest werecharged under the unlawful association laws and imprisoned.
