A30-year-old man, who was arrested in Gwa township of Arakan State, couldnot withstand the torture inflicted by the junta forces. While trying toescape, he was shot by the junta soldiers and finally he drowned after jumpinginto a creek.
Thedeceased was Ko Thet Paing hailing from Sin Ku village under Gwa locality.
“Hehad a wife and a child. The soldiers from the 536th light infantrybattalion based in Gwa, arrested him and took him to Satthwa for questioning.They interrogated him in the yard of the monastery,” said a localresident.
KoThet Paing could not endure the torture during the interrogation. While attemptingto flee, he was shot at and out of panic he jumped into a creek namely YaeThu Ma , where he finally drowned.
“Hisbody showed many signs of torture,” added the resident.
KoThet Paing was taken from his residence by the junta soldiers on 29 August. Thesoldiers are stationed at the bridge and monastery in Satthwa village for sometime.
