A young resident of Taungup town in south Arakan State
was killed by shrapnel from an airstrike conducted by the junta forces on the
night of 15 June.
The victim is identified as Aung Hlaing Win
(also known as Maung Lone Chey, 15) hailed from Ywar Thit Kay village under
Wet Kyaik village-tract.
On the fateful night, the junta soldiers carried
out airstrikes on the villages surrounding Taungup town and Aung Hlaing
Win sustained serious injuries to his abdomen. He was urgently shifted to
Taungup hospital, but succumbed to injuries the next morning.
On 15 June, the Arakha Army (AA) launched an offensive
against the military camp at Tein Chaung, behind Taungup University during the
night hours.
Next morning, intense fighting broke out between the
junta soldiers and AA fighters near Mee Chaung Htoe village on the
Taungup-Ma-Ei road, following which the soldiers conducted a series of
airstrikes over the area.
