A villager from Aung Taing village under  Sittwe township, while the entire village was forcibly relocated, was arrested by the junta forces.

The arrested villager, identified as U Aung Than (over 50 years old), earns his living with poultry farming. He was picked up from his poultry farm on 10 June.

"U Aung Than was also beaten during the arrest with a noose around his neck. His money was also confiscated," said a resident.

Both U Aung Than and his wife stayed in their village as they did not leave for Sittwe. The other villagers have already left their houses.

The  junta ordered the residents of Aung Taing, Yae Chan Pyin, Kywi Te, Kywi Te Pike Seik Chey, Kywi Te Pike Seik Kyi, Ohn Yae Phaw, Kyet Taw Pyin, Pa Lin Pyin, Maung Ni Pyin, Pyar Lae Chaung (old village), Pyar Lae Chaung (new village) and Tin Pone Tan villages under Sittwe township to relocate by 14 June.

The villagers were asked to shift for Sittwe only. Currently, tens of thousands of residents from these villages are taking shelter in their relatives’ houses and monasteries in Sittwe.
