1 killed, 6 injured as junta navy fired artillery shells over Zedi Pyin village

An elderlyman was killed and 6 others, including a woman, were injured when the navy ofjunta forces fired artillery shells over Zedi Pyin village near Mayu mountainsof Arakan State.

 

Thedeceased is identified as U Maung Chan Aye (69) from Ma Nyin Taung village, whowas fleeing the conflict in Zedi Pyin village under Rathedaung township.

 

The injuredindividuals include Daw Thein Thein Nyunt, U Phyu Tha Oo, Maung Myo Min Khant,U Aung Kyaw Sein, U Kyaw Soe Than and Ko Lin Chey, who were also fleeing theconflict areas.

 

A localresident informed Narinjara News that on 21 May in the early morning hours, thenavy personnel, stationed in the sea near Tha Win creek, fired artillery shellswithout any provocation. At least four artillery shells exploded in Zedi Pyinvillage.

 

"Theentire Rathedaung remains under the control of Arakha Army (AA) for aconsiderable period. The  people were living peacefully, but the juntaforces suddenly fired artillery shells," added the resident.

 

The injuredindividuals were sent to nearby hospitals. They sustained injuries on theirlegs, arms and other parts of bodies.

 

The AAannounced the capture of Rathedaung on 17 March. Meanwhile some displacedpersons could not return back to their places as there are still a lot of juntaplanted landmines in certain areas.

 

Accordingto HDCO, between 13 November 2023 and 21 March 2024, at least 179 civilianswere killed and 468 were injured due to airstrikes and artillery shelling bythe junta forces in Rakhine State.
