After landmine encounter, soldiers intensify search operation in Mrauk-U

The soldiers launchedan intensified searchoperation in Mrauk-U of Rakhine State asthey faced a landmine attack on Wednesday that killed 4soldiers and injuried 6 others.

 

This morning theresidents were checked by the junta forces at 7 amas they went to the markets and evenwalked on the road, said a local resident.

 

"Thescared pedestrians and vendors didnot return fromthe market. Now the road is blockedand the security inspection continues,"he added.

 

Till 9 am, thesoldiers conducted searchoperations at the football stadium, Ah Lel Zeeintersection, Shwegu Taung intersection, and nearby areas of Mrauk-Uhotel.

 

The exitof Pan Myaung village under Minbyatownship and thetractor gate used by the market-goersin Nan Yar Kone area also witnessed the rigorous inspections.

 

A Mrauk-U residentinformed Narinjara News that 80 militarycouncil troopsstayed at Ah Lel Zay school last night.They started the search operation in the morninghours.

 

The soldiers areprimarily checking if any individual is linked to the Arakan Army (AA). Theylooked at the cell phones for clues if the individual had shared anyinformation from Rakhine media outlets.

Residents revealedthat the AA members launcheda landmine attack on a column of soldiers onWednesday morning near Kyauk Yit Kay wardintersection of Mrauk-U township.

 

The AA is yet to makeany statement on the incident.

 

Following thelandmine attack, the 540th army battalionlaunched the artillery shellingin Mrauk-U township. They also engaged machine gunsin the urban areas since last evening.
