Three Taungup residents and a Muslim youth were sentenced to three years inprison and also fined Kyats 5,000 by a military court for allegedlybeing associated with the Arakan Army (AA).
Those sentenced include Ko Myo Myint (b) Pu Tar Tar, U Tun Chit and KoAung Myo Thi (b) Ko Aung Che from Taungup along with a Muslim youth fromSittwe township (whose name is yet to be confirmed).
The order was passed by Taungup township court on 29 November under section17(1) of the Unlawful Association Act convicting them to be associated with theAA.
"I come to know that the order was in the evening hours," said a familymember of Myo Myint.
Narinjara News found that the order was passed by the court after receivinga letter from the military authority regarding their jail terms.
The Muslim youth was arrested as he was travelling to Yangon without anydocument. He was initially prosecuted under the immigration laws and latersentenced to prison under section 17(1) of the Unlawful Association Act.
Meanwhile on 29 November, the military council sentenced four individualsincluding a government clerk named Win Maung Maung Phyo from Thandwe town tothree years in prison for their association with the AA.
