A mother along with her five-year-old son drowned in Laymyo river of Rakhine State on Monday.
The woman victim is identified as Daw Win Zai Kyi (35 years old) and her younger sonas Myo Win Ko. Her elder son namedMyo Win Tun (7) however escaped.
They drowned, as their machine boat sank while returning from Tha San to Pyun Young village. The inflated river wasflowing with a strong current dieto heavy rains in the last few days, said the Pyun Youngvillage administrator U Wai Hla Aung.
“They (mother with two children) left for Tha San village at 12 noon on Monday by a machine boat onLaymyo river. When they returned to PyunYeong village their boat faced the accident at around 5 pm. Luckily one child survived,” he added.
The survived son was crying in a bush near the river bank and some fisher men rescued him, stated thevillage administrator.
The incident took place near Shwe Taung village and the dead bodies were recovered at around 7 pm.
They were accordingly buried in their village graveyard. It is reported that the victim lady’s husband(U Maung Win Tun) works inMalaysia.
Due to pouring rains since 2 August, villagers from Min Pya and Mrauk U areas were evacuated as the Laymyoriver started flowing above the dangerlevel.
