MPA reporter Ma Hmu Yadanar Khet Moh MohTun was sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison on 26 May, according toher family members.
“She was sentenced to an additional 10 years under Section 50 (j) of theCounter-Terrorism Law yesterday. They (military council) charge her undervarious sections,” a person close to her family said.
The military council arrested her by ramming the car into the crowd andshooting while covering the news about an anti-coup protest on Panbingyi roadin Kyee Myin Daing Township on the morning of 5 December, 2021.
In the protest, five people including her were seriously wounded and 15others got arrested.
The military council opened the case against Hmu Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun underSection 505 (a) of the Penal Code. Then, she was sentenced to three years inprison with hard labour in December, 2022.
The military council also charged her under Section 50 (j) for allegedfunding the PDF members via her Kpay account.
“The military council sentenced her using its power. The accused made anobjection to the case as the plaintiff couldn’t submit valid evidence. Theaccused said she will not appeal,” a person helping the accused said.
As the military council rammed a car into her, she underwent tibialreplacement surgery. She has to use crutches and a wheelchair.
