On the first day of  Myanmar New Year (on 17 April), the military council has released 3015 Myanmar prisoners along with  98 foreigners, who were serving imprisonment  in various jails of the southeast Asian country.

Secretary of the military council, Lt. Gen. Aung Lin Dway issued the amnesty order for the prisoners (under section 401 of the criminal laws).

Thier punishments were reduced and so they were released under the specific law.

Similar laws were applied to the imprisoned foreigners (five among them are Sri Lankan citizens).
