Chairman of the military council senior general Min Aung Hlaing commentedrecently that those involved in the education sector, specifically the teachers and students,should avoid engaging in politicalactivities.
The top military leader, while attending a meeting with teachers and officials of Sittwe University at thegraduation hall on 30 March along with representatives from the education ministry, advised them to keepaway frompolitics.
"The teachers and students were askednot to participate in political activities.The opening of doctoral courses, expansion of new dormitories, need for educated human resources etc were alsodiscussed in the meeting,”said a lecturer of Sittwe University.
Min Aung Hlaing opined that the teachers and students shouldengage in educationalworks rather than than joining in politics.
A leader of Rakhine State student’s unionsaid that they are interestedin the state of affairs across the country.
He alleged that thoseworked during the military council’s tenure are corrupt. During the NLD's tenure, the government reallytried to develop educational institutions.
The military council team visited Sittwe to present anew umbrella crown to Lawka Nandapagoda there. The team also visited other places including Sittwe Kandawgyi lake and Point resort.
