The Military Council announcedthat a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council(NDSC) will be held on February 1 st - the 2nd anniversary of the militarycoup.
Major General Zaw Min Tun, who isthe spokesperson of the Military Council, said to the foreignpress, “ After two years, we have to report to the National Defense and SecurityCouncil. I want to tell you to watch what will be presented there.”
According to the 2008constitution, the emergency period can be extended twice by calling ameeting of the NDSC, the first term of 1 year and the second term of 6 months.During the military coup, the NDSC convened two meetings and extendedthe termof the coup.
It has been officially announcedthat a general election will be held in 2023 after the extension,and currently the Military Council is conducting population censuses in order to hold theelection.
According to the 2008constitution, the National Defense and Security Council (NDSC) is composedof the President, two Vice-Presidents, the Speaker of the People’s Hluttaw, the Speaker of the NationalHluttaw, the Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services, the Deputy Commander-in-Chiefof Defense Services, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of ForeignAffairs, the Minister for Home Affairs, the Minister of BorderAffairs.
In the NDSC meeting held one theday after the military coup subsequently, the Acting President ofMyanmar U Myint Swe, the current Chairman of the Military Council, the Commander-in-Chiefof Defense Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the DeputyCommander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces .Vice Senior General Soe Win, the Speaker ofthe People’s Hluttaw T Khun Myat, and the Minister of Defense, theMinisterof Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Home Affairs, the Minister of BorderAffairs allappointed by the Military Council attended.
