ALP chief of staff with two others assassinated in Sittwe

Chief of staff of Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) with two other leaders were reportedly assassinated in Sittwe, the capital city of Rakhine State, this morning.

Besides the ALP chief Khaing Saw Mya (53 years old), Khaing Kyaw Soe (34, a battalion commander) and Kyaw Min Soe (31, alias Captain Khaing Thu Rinda) were also killed in the incident, said a party source.

They all were returning to their office by car after attending from the 75 years celebration of Independence Day, held at Vasali playground of Sittwe, where unknown gun men targeted them.

A local resident informed that the incident took place at around 7 am near Sidam in Set Ron Suu ward under Sittwe and they died on the spot with bullet injuries.

ALP vice-chairperson Daw Saw Mya Raza Lin, associate general secretary Khing Aung Soe Than and other senior leaders were contacted with telephones, but those were found switched off.

A source in Rakhine State government noted that the victims were associated with the ALP. Their bodies were already transported to Sittwe city public hospital for post postmortems.
