Former Rakhine State Prime Minister U Nyi Pu and former State municipal minister U MinAung, who were sentenced to almost 10 years in prisons, face more charges.
On 23 February, the special prison court in Sittwe prison continued its hearing on the case relating torigging of votes in the 2020 nationalelection.
U WinAung, a lawyer representing them, informed that in the next court hearing the judge will decide theirfates following the arguments from bothsides.
The former Prime Minister is charged by theRakhine State deputy director ofElection Commission, U Thurin Htut on 8 December 2021 under section 130 (a) of the Penal Code.
The former municipal minister was charged under section 109 for aiding electoral fraud.
"It is still not clear what would happen as the charge is framed by the government. But we are doing ourbest to resolve the case,” saidthe lawyer.
Earlier, on 19 morning the Sittwe special prison court sentenced Nyi Pu to nine years and Min Aung to sevenyears in jail under section 55 ofthe anti-corruption law. They were also sentenced to two years in prison with labour under section 505(b) of the Penal Code for defaming the State authority.
Nyi Pu's wife, Daw Win Kyisaid that she had nothing to say about thelawsuit. She was however worried about her husband being old (65 years old).
U Nyi Pu is also one of the top leadersbelonging to the National Leaguefor Democracy.
