Two school buildings in Lanma Kyung IDP camp in Buthidaung, around 80 miles north of Rakhine capital city ofSittwe, collapsed due to strongwind and so nearly 200 students are presently facing difficulties, said U Kyaw Win, a teacher from the school.
The incident took place on 12 February at around 1 pm. However, no student or teacher was injured and theyescaped without any harm.
"It's a little windy these days. Fortunately, no one in the school was hurt. But the buildings fullycollapsed. Moreover, there is no money forrebuilding activities. Hence unless there are funds from the donors, the children may not get theopportunity to go to school beforethe examination,” added U KyawWin.
Both the buildings were self-funded by the Lanma refugee camp. Those are built by the bamboo and palmleaves. Each dormitory is around 50 feetlong and 30 feet wide.
With the permission of the Education Department, 164 pupils from kindergarten up to seventh standard arestudying, said the teacher.
Ma Mae Chae, a seventh grade student of the school, said,“Our school has completelycollapsed. The big exam is also nearby. It would be good if the school can be rebuilt soon.”
In Buthidaung Lanma Kyung IDP camp there are 1,351 people taking shelter who hail from 16 villagesincluding Kyauktan under Rathedaung townshipand Nwa Yone Taung, San Go Taung, Tayet Byint, Shasar Taung under Buthidaung township.
There are more than 60,000 refugees taking shelter in camps in 10 townships of Rakhine State and most oftheir children are having difficultiesto pursue academic education.
