Two including a monk sentenced to prison

The Mrauk U township court on Wednesday  sentenced a prominent monk named Myata Saung Saradaw along his associate  Khing Ni Min to two years in prison with hard labour.

According to the lawyer  U Tun Hla the order was passed by a judge of Mrauk U township court at 12 pm. The judge sentenced them under the provisions of unlawful act 17(1) relating to unlawful organizations.

Both the accused individuals were arrested by the police on 11 April 2017 as the monk was celebrating the Arakan Army’s 8th year day by organizing a football match in his monastery’s playground.

Myata Saung Saradaw has owned an orphanage where over 200 students are getting shelter. After his arrest, those inmates in the orphanage are apprehending problems because of fund crisis.
