Three arrested for arsenal stealing

Buthidaung, 20 December 2014:

Buthidaung (2)Three persons, including one soldier, were arrested by the authority for their involvement with a theft case in the armory belonged to an infantry battalion in northern Arakan, which is adjacent to Bangladesh, said a police source.

The detained individuals were identified as Maung Moe, a soldier  from Sakakha 15 division with two villagers namely Aung Tun Kyaw (33) and Maung San Aye (26). All of them were charged with the stealing of few small arms and ammunitions from a weapon store on 7 December 2014 night.

At least 2 pistols, 981 bullets,  4 magazines and 2 bayonets were reported missing from the armory of Light Infantry Battalion no 564 based in Maungnama Palay village under Buthidaung township.

The police and the military personnel first arrested Maung Moe and recovered one pistol and 136 bullets from him. Following his confession, the authority could arrest Aung Tun Kyaw and Maung San Aye from Okk Taung village near the battalion camp. Later the authority recovered more  arms and ammunitions from them.

Soldier Maung Moe is being interrogated by the Army officers in a camp for more information, where as the two villagers were handed over to the Buthidaung police. The authority is expecting more inputs from all the detainees regarding their probable links to any insurgent outfits, which are active in the locality.
