Thousands of Rakhine people staged a demonstration on Sunday across Arakan State asking the government to fulfill their various demands. Not less than 15 townships including the capital city of Sittwe witnessed the protest programs.
U Aung Htay, one of the organizers said, “The demonstrations were carried out throughout Arakan asking four points of demands to be implemented immediately.”
The demands include to scrutinize the process of citizenship in Maungdaw and Buthidaung localities under 1982 citizenship laws, to drive away few NGOs from Arakan which were supporting the militants in Mayu region, to allow indigenous people to get armed and to crack down the terrorists operating in Mayu localities urgently.
The programs were organized at Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Rathidaung, Rambree, Man Aung, Gwa, Ngapali, Thandwe, Mray Bon, Kyauk Pru, Rambree, Minbya, Ponna Kyunt, Kyauk Taw, Pauk Taw etc besides Sittwe.
In the State capital, over 10 thousand people including monks and government workers assembled, where as 5000 gathered at Thandwe and 3000 at Buthidaung & Maungdaw townships.
“We are satisfied with the gathering of Sittwe. We also believe that it will help realizing the government about the public mood in Arakan,” added Aung Htay.
He also asserted that if the government fails to resolve their demands, the people would continue fighting for their demands.
Narinjara news persons contacted the responsible Rakhine government ministers over the matter through the telephone, but they denied any kind of reactions.
