A prominent Arakanese student leader faces a new case for his involvement in a protest demonstration against the authority.

Ko Tun Min Khant, chairman of Rakhine Student Union (Dagon University unit) has been alleged to be a participant in a protest rally against various education laws of the prestigious educational institution.

The demonstration was organized in front of U Tun Lin estate located at Lae Dan juncture near to the Yangon University at Rangoon, the former capital of Burma, on 30 March 2014. The protesters raised voices for decentralizing the education laws of the university authorities.

“I am one of the four students facing the case in the court. The on-duty officer from Kamar Yut police station informed me about it through telephone. He asked me to report to the police station and apply for necessary exemptions from the arrest,” said Ko Tun Min Khant, who is a final-year student of the law department.

The other three accused students are identified as Zeyar Lwin, Pai Thu and Nan Ei from the same university. Ko Tun Min Khant reiterated his stand that he along with the others would face the case, opened by the police, in respective courts.
