Rakhine State Parliament to convene on 8 February

The Parliament of Rakhine (Arakan) State will be convened on 8 February 2016. According to Rakhine State Parliament office at Sittwe, the last session of the Parliament was concluded on 31 January.

“I have received an invitation letter from Rakhine State Parliament office to attend the first meeting beginning on February 8,” said U Than Naing, who won the Rathidaung township constituency of the State Parliament in November 2015 polls.

However, the National League for Democracy is yet to announce the name of their leaders for Arakan State government. The NLD won 8 seats in Arakan State Parliament in the last national election.

On the other hand, the Arakan National Party (ANP) won 23 seats in Rakhine State Parliament. In the 47 seat Arakan State Parliament, 3 seats were won by USDP candidates and 1 seat by Chin nationals.
