Post-flood disease spreads in Arakanese village

The people in some parts of Arakan are presently suffering from different diseases which surface after the flood. At least 45 people of Tharsay New village in Ayathayma track under  Mrauk Oo township  have faced skin problems, claimed local sources.

The local people got affected with skin diseases after they showered in village ponds.  The flood water used to inundate these ponds for many days. The villagers informed that their  skin witnessed lumps and also turned itchy. There are 31 households and around 150 people in Tharsay New village.

“The villagers started reporting about skin diseases since last week. The village heads came to our office with the samples of pond water and also photographs of  the affected residents. We have sent those samples to the township doctors. A survey in the affected villages is also planed next week. Meanwhile,  we have sent water cleaning medicines to those villages,” said Ko Tun Tun of Mrauk Oo township rescue organization of flood victims.

Reliable sources informed Narinjara News that only one of two flood-affected ponds were cleaned by the authority till today.

Dr Khun Maung Ore, while talking to Narinjara News, informed that the authority has ensured the testing of dirty pond water. He however agreed that the villagers complained of skin diseases after using the flood-affected pond water.
