Indian Ambassador discusses Kaladan project with Rakhine government

Indian Ambassador to Burma (Myanmar) Gautam Mukhopadhaya had recently visited the capital city of Arakan  and discussed on various issues with the acting Arakan (Rakhine) State chief Minister U Mya Aung.

According to a report from the Rakhine government,  Mukhopadhaya met the chief minister on 18 March at the government hall in Sittwe.

The issues of discussions between the Indian diplomat and Rakhine leader comprised different bilateral issues including the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and potential of business opportunities out of the ambitious venture.

The project is expected to connect the Sittwe port in Bay of Bengal with the alienated northeastern region of India.

Ambassador Mukhopadhaya also informed that New Delhi was interested in supporting the Rakhine government in two sectors namely agriculture and husbandry/breeding.

The meeting was also attended by Indian diplomat based in sittwe Rajesh Kumar, few Rakhine ministers and high ranking officials.
