The Burmese army from Arakan State has established a mobile musical troupe to mobilize people in support of the Burmese army and military junta with dancing and singing, reported a politician from Rathidaung on the condition of anonymity.

The army troupe has been performing in several rural towns of northern Arakan, including Rathidaung and Buthidaung, since the rainy season ended.

The audience said the army troupe has presented many programs, including dramas and operas, in the open night shows, but most of the programs relate to the Burmese army and the struggle for Burmese independence from Britain and the establishment of the country.

Moreover, the army troupe has presented some romantic dramas, but all dramas are love affairs between army officers and young ethnic girls in the frontline areas.

Another source said the troupe also presents a few comedies aimed at the democracy activists and western cultural influences in Burma.

The army troupe has been performing in open theaters in towns all over Arakan, but the authority has been collecting money from the townspeople - especially businessmen - for the traveling, food, and other expenses of the musical troupe.

A businessman from Buthidaung said that the authority has collected at least 10,000 kyat from every businessman, and every businessman has been forced to donate the amount for the troupe.

The army troupe started its performance program at a sports playground in Buthidaung on 3 November, and will complete it on 5 November. The troupe is performing to the people from 8pm to 6 am every night. #
