Burmese couple arrested with banned yaba tablets

A couple was arrested with over 400000 banned yaba tablets at a check point at Taungup locality of Arakan State by the police on Tuesday. The couple brought the banned tablets from Yangon on way to Sittwe by their own car.

The accused were identified as U Thein Kyaw (46 years, son of U Thein Maung) and Daw Thanda (45 years, daughter of U Kyaw Thein from north Dangon of Yangon division), informed an officer of Taungup police station.

He also added that the cost of those seized yaba tablets in the market would be around kyat 1800 million.

“We searched the car when the couple arrived at our check point on Tuesday afternoon. We found several packages of yaba tablets covered with garments inside their vehicle. We seized the tablets and also arrested them,” disclosed the  police officer.

It may be mentioned that Taungup is located at the entry point to Arakan State in western Burma (Myanmar). The police on duty have already registered a case against the couple (case number (Pa)1/2016) under narcotic the Act 15/19 (Kha)/21.
