An Arakanese goldsmith, now settled in Insein township of Yangon, was arrested from Yangon- Sittwe highway with over 5 lakh Yaba tablets.

The officials belonged to Arakan narcotic department and police succeeded in arresting U Kyaw Min (45) along with 509960 Yaba tablets from Ann-Paybadon checkpoint, while he was carrying the items from Yangon to Sittwe by a passenger bus.

“The team on duty searched two bags belongs to U Kyaw Min, which was put under his seat in the bus. We found 270000 Yaba tablets from a traveling bag and  239960 from a different one,” said Thaung Lwin, an official from Aan police station.

He also added that U Kyaw Min may be the transporter only. However the police has registered a case against him with narcotic act 15/19 (Kha)/ 20 (Kha)/21 at Ann police station.

It is presumed that the smugglers use the Arakan State as a transit route for sending Yaba tablets to neighboring Bangladesh, where it has high demand.
