Arakan State government seized drugs worth over 50 billion kyats last year

Drugs worth over 50 billion kyats have been seized in the Arakan State last year, the Arakan State government explained to the Arakan State Hluttaw (Parliament).

U Kyaw Aye Thein, the Rakhine State Finance, Revenue, Planning and Commerce Minister, submitted this to the Arakan State Hluttaw on 20 February in response to a question raised by State Hluttaw MP U Aye Thein from Sittwe Township Constituency – 1 on the list of drugs seized in the Arakan State and their current values.

“The total number of [drug] cases is 121 and the current value is 56.3059 billion [kyats],” Minister U Kyaw Aye Thein told the Hluttaw.

WY amphetamine tablets, marijuana, and morphine were seized in the Arakan State from January to December last year. A total of 195 people have been arrested for their involvements with the drug cases, according to the Arakan State government.
