Arakan flood affects 4800 acres of Mrauk Oo district farm land

The heavy downpour in various parts of Arakan State drowned over 4800 acres of farm land in Mrauk U district, said an Arakan government spokesperson.

“As 4872 acres of farm land in the district are inundated by flood water, I asked Mrauk U district authority to survey and report about the damages. We would make official statements after receiving the report,” informed U Minn Aung, the government spokesperson and also a State minister.

Three townships in the district namely Mrauk U (1026 acres), Kyauk Taw (1816 acres) and Min Bya (2030 acres) are inundated by the torrential rain in the last few days.

The Arakan government revealed that it preserved 25000 baskets of paddy  to help the farmers in distress. Meanwhile, the government distributed relief and paddies in all three townships between 5 July and 7 July.

Mrauk U and  Kyauk Taw townships received  300 sacks of rice each where as Min Bya  got 700 sacks to supports the flood affected families for one month.


The government decides to make an aerial survey in Ann township to estimate the loss incurred by the latest wave of flood. It has readied 5000 sacks of reserved rice for the affected people.

Meanwhile, the State government urged the Union government in Naypyidaw  to offer 86 electricity machine, 86 water pump, 86 cleaned water machine & fiber water tanks (capacity of 5000 gallons) for sending to 86 monasteries in the affected  townships.

Quoting the Xinhua news, the authority informed that  over 14000 people were affected by the recent wave of flood across the State.
