75th Ven-Oattama Day scheduled for September 9 in Yangon

Great saint and revolutionary social scientist Ven-Oattama, who should have been familiar to each and every Burmese today, was deprived space in the school curriculum, which has been very unfortunate.

Addressing a conference on  August 23 at Arakan State Dhama Hall near to the world famous Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon (Yangon), the president of 75th Ven-Oattama Day celebration committee said thus emphasizing on proper awareness about the great soul.

The forthcoming Ven-Oattama ceremony will be held at MCC Hall on Min Dhama Road of Yangon on  September 9 with the cooperation from various Arakanese civil society groups under the monitoring of Arakanese affairs ministry.

Dr San Hla Kyaw, the president of the organizing committee also explained three primary aim & objectives of the forthcoming Ven-Oattama Day as to prepare a complete biography of the pioneer freedom fighter of Burma, to spread his messages to the youths (through the biography) and to urge the Union government for adequate work-plans to pay tributes to Ven-Oattama.

The crowded press meet was also addressed by U Zaw Aye Maung, the Arakanese affairs minister from Yangon division, where patron members of the organizing committee were also present.

During the last year’s celebration on September 9 a signature campaign was conducted with the demand for renaming the Kandaw Min Park as Oattama Park.

Meanwhile, a research carried out by the Municipal Department of Yangon revealed that the Cantonment Park was originally named as Oo- Oattama Park. The issue has been taken to the notice of Burma President U Thein Sein for necessary actions. The Arakanese affairs minister from Yangon division, U Zaw Aye Maung also supported the move in favor of Oattama Park.

The forthcoming Ven-Oattama Day celebration will witness various programmes including the essay competition among the students from high school to post-graduate level and also poem reciting contest among the professions. The award wining essay and other articles will be published a special book paying tribute to  Ven-Oattama. Anybody across the globe irrespective of his faith may join in the competition, disclosed the committee.
