3 Bangladeshi Held with Yaba Tablets on Border

Dhaka: Three Bangladeshi youths were arrested by Bangladesh border force, BGB, on Tuesday with at least 11,305 Yaba tablets, said the Bangladesh authority.

The authority said that three youths were arrested with huge amount of Yaba during a drive by inspection by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on the Naf river near the Teknaf border area in Cox’s Bazar.

The arrestees were Abul Hashem, 22, Nur Hossain, 20, and Abdullah, 18, all residents of Moulvipara in Teknaf.

A team from BGB 42nd Battalion from the Teknaf Border Outpost (BOP), headed by Habildar Arad Ali, stopped an engine boat on the Naf river around 7:30am, Lt Col Zahid Hasan, commanding officer of BGB 42 battalion, told media.

BGB personnel found the three youths aboard the boat along with the Yaba tablets, he said. They seized the drugs along with the boat.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they were transporting the Yaba consignment from Burma into Bangladesh as per the order of one Abdul Gani, said BGB officials.

On the border, the Bangladesh authority has imposed tight security to block yaba smuggling to Bangladesh from Burma. However, the Yaba tablets continue to enter Bangladesh through many other border points.
